VWA New Year's Mixer
Virginia Wireless Association kicked off 2012 with a social mixer, January 11th, 2012. The cold and rainy weather didn't deter VWA members from showing up to network, socialize, and predict wireless forecasts for the coming months.

We had a total head count of 74 members, in the private room at Clyde's of Mark Center in Alexandria, Va.
VWA thanks all members who were so generous to bring a surplus of canned goods which VWA donated to Feed More of Central Virginia Food Bank!

September 2011: Ed Donohue of Donohue & Stearns appointed as new President of VWA
Ed’s expertise is in the areas of land use/zoning, litigation and leasing, with a particular emphasis on tower and antenna issues. Ed has been a driving force behind the organization since our inception in 2008. Ed Roach, Associate General Counsel for SBA, has graciously accepted the role of Vice President. And we are excited to announce that Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (“Shentel”) has joined the association and Willy Pirtle, Vice President, Sales and Market Strategy with Shentel, will be joining the Board as a Director. Willy brings a tremendous amount of experience and energy to the Board and we are thrilled to have him.

JUL 20 - 22, 2011 VA Wireless endorses APA Annual Conference
On July 20, 2011. a session on Planning for Wireless Telecommunication Facilities organized through Virginia Wireless was presented at the annual meeting of the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association held at the Wintergreen Resort. The panel consisted of Ted Abrams, Telecommunications Consultant; Willy Pirtle, President of Marketing and Sales, Wireless and Wireline for Shentel; and John McCarthy, County Administrator of Rappahannock, Virginia. David Marshall of Donohue and Stearns moderated the session.

The session focused on the rapid growth and dynamic changes being experienced by the wireless telecommunications industry and stressed the need for local governments and planners to understand the technological trends that are driving the industry’s rapid growth in order to plan and develop the appropriate regulations, guidelines and plans that accommodate the need and demand of a wide range of different wireless providers.
The session was attended by approximately 40 land use planners and planning officials from throughout Virginia and provided a lively discussion on the rapid rise in demand generated by the desire for high speed data transfer, 3G, 4G and other next generation technologies. Considerable discussion also focused on the increasing requirement for antenna and telecommunication structure sites as well as routine changes to existing approved structures. The panel members provided and overview of emerging technologies, basic information on cell site requirements and capabilities and forecasts for future demand and provided answers to many related questions received from participants. The 2 ½ day Annual Meeting of the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association was attended by over 300 planners and planning officials from across the state. Many of the participants stopped by the Virginia Wireless booth to discuss the organization’s mission and benefit.

2nd VWA golf tournament took place at the Williamsburg National Golf Club, Jamestown course in Williamsburg, Virginia.
VWA's 2nd Annual Tournament was a huge success!
This year's tourney had 23 teams vying for best ball and a good time. All participants had a great day enjoying a beautiful sunny 83 degree day in Williamsburg, playing golf with their peers, while raising money for a wonderful cause: HopeCam http://hopecam.org/
Virginia Wireless Board members presented a check in the amount of $5,000.00 to Len Forkas, President of Milestone Communications and Founder of HopeCam.

FEB 25, 2010: Maryland DC Wireless Association FCC "Shot Clock" Forum
The Maryland DC Wireless Association in cooperation with the Virginia Wireless Association cordially invites you to attend the 2010 Speaker Series.
The topic of the event will be the FCC’s recent adoption of a tower siting shot clock. In November 2009, the FCC adopted a shot clock of 90 days for state and local jurisdictions to act on tower collocation applications and 150 days to act on all other tower siting applications.
The keynote speaker for the event is Jane E. Jackson, Esq., the senior FCC official responsible for the Shot Clock Declaratory Ruling. Ms. Jackson will also be involved in a roundtable discussion on the topic at hand.
